May @ IAC

So,all those holidays are over and we entered one of the hardest months in our calendar. Decisions have to be made, whether you are just finishing high school or trying to find finances for your graduate studies abroad. Many deadlines for future graduate and undergraduate students expire in the days to come and we are here to answer your questions. Don’t hesitate to talk to us –after all,we are really good at this. We managed to help some of the most talented and needy students with more than just words of advice, but we’ll talk about this some other time.
What can you expect this month? First of all, those of you who are getting ready to go to study in the US,or participate in an exchange program, have the chance to talk to US Embassy consular officers before their scheduled appointment. The purpose of this regular annual meeting in our office is to give you a chance to ask questions about visas and the procedure. This meeting will be announced later on our web site. Feel free to call us to reserve your seat for this event, but the first people who will be called are those who prepared with us.
Testing for TOEFL iBT resumes in somewhat regular pace this month. There will be three testing dates throughout the month and we hope you registered for the location you wanted. Get your documents in order, prepare as you can and read all the rules and regulations ahead. Don’t miss anything important about TOEFL you should know –the action administrator can do at the site is pretty much limited.
May started with the SAT –we hope you performed well on it. The last SAT for this school year is scheduled in the first weekend of June, with the registration deadline on May 5. Hurry up and register if you didn’t do it by now. If you are late, there’s another option:stand-by testing. It means you can test if there are seats available at the location. It is risky, but one can always try it.
Testing for GMAT and other exams in our computer lab will continue as usual, twice a week. Register early as seats may fill up quickly!
We are still on the lookout for the best ways to communicate with you and save your time. We plan to share the list of our resources with you online,so you can know immediately what can be borrowed from the library and what can be accessed at the premises.
Our Facebook page is getting fairly good visit every day,but there are some limitations to the things we can do with it. Pages don’t have many options that individual profiles do,but we trust developers will find new possibilities.
Unfortunately, the FAQ software we were testing did not prove to be good enough. Therefore,we must find another solution for this purpose. FAQ section was planned to be online and running during the month of April, but the software had some critical issues.
Critical issues regarding massive spam forced us to make an extra step in validating new users for the forum. Administrator verification of each account is necessary now, since spam bots are able to pass the anti-spam checkpoint. Just like many other customers,we’re still waiting on the new version of the Invision software. Of course,we can download beta version, but that would not be fair to you. We don’t have hundreds of new users every day and we can still maintain human control. Those of you who didn’t receive an answer at the forum will get it soon –holidays and university applications wore out our advisors.
This blog will also have some new widgets added to it. The goal is to improve its functionality and looks. Once the finals are finished, our students in the US will write more about their experience. Many of them will come home for the summer,so you may be able to meet them in person. Feel free to browse through old and new stories and comment or ask questions.
If you plan to use your summer holidays to prepare for exams or just get informed about US education, please plan ahead. We will use holidays as well and our office hours may be reduced to some point in June,July and August. You are welcome if your plans include more practice for exams –just let us know ahead.
