Note To Test Takers

We are so glad to be able to discover something new every season, but there are people who are not so happy about it. Couple of days ago we have assisted some young people before they destroyed their computers in testing registration frustration.

You may not know it,but the test registration can be very challenging task. You have to hunt down parents or relatives and help them overcome their fear of paying online,or you simply have to fight banks just to get your little debit card you can use online. After you put some money on it,the right currency, and some more just in case there may be invisible taxes and charges, the web site you need acts peculiar.

Couple of our members made it through to the very end, paid their SATs and then hit the wall with the TOEFL registration. The message “403″kept appearing right at the moment of payment and there was no way they could avoid it. Our advice was to avoid Internet Explorer 8 and downgrade it to the lower version, preferably IE6. But,it could not be done –Vista didn’t really want to downgrade it to IE6 and nothing seemed to be working properly. Then the kids hooked up one of the older computers to the network and registered successfully. Yes,they used IE6.

We really can’t offer any explanation why weird things happen when people use new versions of Internet Explorer. Our opinion is that many features that came automatically with previous versions of the software were the victims of the desire to spend more secure time on the web. It seems that many users who are attempting payment online were not told that little information.

When we’re at it,let’s say it again –many online locations for testing registration will not be able to process your payment if you are using browsers other than Internet Explorer. Sad but true, but the picture may be different in the years to come. We will inform you when things change as many of our students with problems call us when weird things happen during their registration procedure.
