The situation has not changed since the last blog post about reading instructions. There are still way too many of you not reading or following instructions from official testing web sites. Each time we think situation has improved, test takers do something surprising.
Too many things depend on the successful testing experience. In order to get the best for your money and avoid repeating it you should really read everything about the test at the official web site of the testing sponsor. Important things are not hidden from you, they are somewhere on those pages with instructions.
When you take TOEFL® iBT you should know that the changes are not possible on the exam day. It means that you have to get rid of the codes of institutions you listed as receivers of scores if you are not certain about your performance. At the end of the test you would not be able to see scores and you cannot undo the list of recipients. If you want to send the best scores possible, you better wait to see them and then pay extra money for the procedure.
Also, try to actually see the test you are about to take. There are many books in bookstores, free software is available at the www.toefl.org and you can do the simulation of the test in our office. We understand that you know English, but TOEFL® has its unique way of testing you. You really don’t want any surprises of that sort at the testing day.
Something similar goes for the SAT®. There are books and the web site www.collegeboard.com has one free placement test to offer. Candidates for this test should really be prepared in advance.
If you find something in the testing procedure that sounds complicated to you, please talk to us before the testing day or night.
